People with disability have artistic aspirations and achievements that they consider to be important and to be valued as part of the community. To this end, there is the Inclusive Arts Network (IAN) based in Victoria. It offers artists the opportunity to enter their work in the 2020 IAN Art Exhibition.
A member of the network, artist Jamie Halliday, says:
"Music and Arts are a very important part of my life now and are things I want to be a part of my life in the future also. The arts is something I use to process events in my life and to express my feelings that sometimes words can’t express. It’s important to me to have a creative outlet that I can put my energy into. I like to use arts as a way to educate people on the real issues."
Visual arts and culture are ways in which people with disability can participate in their communities, relate to others and to express themselves. It can provide joy, purpose and stimulation to people who are isolated and suffering from chronic and painful conditions.
