Ezy-Dun portable accessible bathroom

Unprecedented bushfires burning across Australia this summer have caused many communities to be evacuated and thousands of people to be displaced. IDEAS, Australia’s leading independent disability information provider has unveiled a new practical asset, Ezy-Dun, that can be deployed wherever people from fire-effected areas are evacuated or temporarily housed.

Ezy-Dun, a portable accessible toilet with ramped access, accessible toilet, hoist and change table that is suitable for adults and older children as well as young ones. It features two basins, safe sharps disposal and plenty of space for parents or carers to assist their families to attend a bathroom with privacy and dignity.

IDEAS Executive Officer Diana Palmer said that the consequence of emergency evacuation is particularly severe for people with a disability because accessibility is not often the priority at a time of crisis.

“We understand the pressure our emergency services and evacuation coordinators are under at the moment and we applaud their service,” said Ms Palmer.

“Community leaders have acted valiantly to keep people safe but those with a disability should not be an afterthought, particularly in a time of crisis.

“Imagine being forced to flee your home and huddle in thick smoke with thousands of other people on a beach for hours, with no clarity around when or how you can leave. Now imagine facing that situation without access to a suitable toilet.

“Everyone deserves the right to use a bathroom with privacy and dignity, so evacuation coordinators must plan for the needs of the one-in-four Australians who have a disability. IDEAS is making it easy to meet those needs, with a portable, accessible toilet that can be deployed with little notice to areas of need.

“Ezy-Dun is listed with emergency peaks but anyone who needs access to this sort of asset should encourage their local co-ordinator to get in touch with IDEAS directly,” said Ms Palmer.
