Returning Prime Minister Scott Morrison has committed to addressing failures in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as a top priority, following his surprise win in Saturday’s election.

During the election campaign, Minister for Families and Social Services Paul Fletcher committed to creating a $45 million information gateway for people with disability. Further, the Morrison government committed to introducing a new NDIS Participant Guarantee to make accessing and using the scheme quicker and easier for people with disability across the country.

The Coalition Government further pledged to introduce a 7% disability employment target in the Australian Public Service, and to invest an additional $20 million to expand on the Community Connectors Program. Peak disability bodies and advocates have welcomed the announcement and are urging the re-elected Government to keep its promises in relation to getting the fully funded with an increased employment target, additional employment support, and assistance for regional and remote, culturally and linguistically diverse and ageing communities and introduction of the Participant Guarantee.

Prime Minister Morrison has said that fixing the NDIS is one of his highest priorities. welcomes this announcement and looks forward to working with the newly returned government to enact its new policies.
